Aims & Principles

On 16th December 2009 the bureau was officially recognised as an Investors in People organisation, an achievement of which we are very proud. Not least because we achieved accreditation on our first assessment.

In 2007 we decided that the bureau would benefit in many ways if we could achieve Investors in People accreditation. With the help of a consultant, we put together a plan to take us through the 39 standards covering the core foundations of good people management. Two years on, with support from all our partners, we applied for assessment.

The assessment process, held over two days in November 2009 focussed on two key areas:

  • How engaged staff are with strategic planning and whether they feel the plan in place reflects their views.
  • With increases in staff numbers and changes in management, interviewees were asked about the development of individual managers.

Interviews were conducted with 20 people from across the organisation at every level, including trustees, staff, in-house volunteers, and pro bono lawyers. The report details the findings and recommendations, together with a copy of the full IiP Standard against which we were measured. We will now be concentrating on how we build on this success ready for our review in three years time.
