Employed lawyers, supported by volunteer solicitors from almost 60 firms, provide free advice on civil law matters that are dealt with at the Courts on a daily basis. All civil cases are dealt with at this branch e.g. Procedural Advice and Preparation of Court of Appeal Documents

Access to advice at this branch is by appointment only. The system is described below:

How do I book an appointment?
The Appointment Line is open from Monday to Friday, 10.00am - 1.00pm with a new week of appointments becoming available every Wednesday .

How far in advance can I book?
The bureau books appointments up to one week in advance – you therefore have more choice about the day and time that you come for advice, to fit around your other commitments. Bookings are taken from Wednesday through to the following Tuesday until all appointments for that week are fully booked.

Callers can select from a number of options, enabling them to book an appointment, hear information about our services and opening times, leave a message to get an update on an existing case or listen to advice on a range of legal issues.

Can I still book appointments in person?
No. Bookings can only be made through our dedicated telephone line on 0844 856 3534 – it is not possible to book an appointment by visiting the bureau,

What if it’s an emergency?
People with emergency cases (e.g. people facing eviction that day) should still attend the Bureau in person

What if I need to change the time of my appointment or cancel it?
If you cannot make your appointment for any reason, or need to change to an alternative day or time,you can leave a message by calling the appointment line and choosing from the menu options. Our reception staff will call you back to assist with this.

How often can I have an appointment?
Appointments are limited to one appointment per person per week, to ensure that more people can get in to the bureau to receive advice.

All family law matters and general advice including consumer, debt, housing, employment and welfare benefits cases are dealt with at this branch, subject to adviser availability.

How do I get family law advice?

You can only obtain family law advice by appointment.  Appointments can be booked by telephone one week in advance.  The telephone line is open 10.00am-1.00pm Monday toFriday. Bookings are taken from Monday to Friday until all appointments for the week are fully booked.  The appointment line number is 0844 856 3534.

How do I get general advice?

The bureau’s office are open 9.30am-4.30pm.  During this time you will see a receptionist or “gateway” assessor who will assess your case and identify the best course of action for you – this might be to see one of our general advisers, to refer you to another agency, or to provide you with some information to help you resolve your query.

Please bring all relevant documents with you, such as letters or other papers about your problem, as this will help to ensure that you see the right person, or enable us to suggest an appropriate agency if your problem is not one that we can assist with.

There may be times when we are very busy and we may be unable to give you advice on the day. We will always try to avoid this where ever possible
