An example of our help
Our client is 55 years old and spent 7 years in prison for a crime that he did not commit. After release from prison he settled in a flat above a shop, paying rent to the landlord who owned the shop below. Our client mistakenly believed that the water bill covered both the shop and the flat, and that this was being paid by the landlord. He had unwittingly been falling into arrears.
As our client suffers from depression and other health problems, he has difficulty dealing with his affairs. We applied to the Thames Water Trust and explained his difficulties and the misunderstanding. They agreed to write off £1,500 of the arrears and agreed to collect the remaining arrears directly from his benefits.
