Wilfred's story

Wilfred* contacted us as he was having an issue with his neighbour. His neighbour kept playing music loudly until the early hours of the morning, which kept him and his family up at night and therefore unable to sleep. This was impacting both Wilfred and his wife’s employment and their children’s ability to concentrate at school. When Wilfred told the neighbour that the music was keeping his family awake and asked them to keep the volume of the music down, they shouted and swore at him. After that, they would shout nasty names at him if they saw him and continued to play the music loudly into the night.

Wilfred eventually called the police, who spoke with the neighbour and asked them to stop, but the neighbour did not. The police said there was not anything more that they could do. Following this, the neighbour’s harassment of Wilfred became even worse as they started posting threatening messages into his letterbox.

Wilfred requested an appointment with our civil team to discuss his options. He was advised that he should apply for a protection from harassment order. We advised Wilfred on how to obtain the necessary evidence, what form to use and which court to apply to. We continued to assist him throughout the proceedings with further advice.

With our help, Wilfred was successful in his application. The order included that the neighbour must not play loud music past 11pm and that they must not communicate with or approach Wilfred. Wilfred was very pleased with this outcome as he and his family were then able to sleep properly and not be intimidated by the neighbour.
