Hours: 35 hours per week (excluding lunch), Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm
Salary: £40,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Location: Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London and Central Family Court, High Holborn, London, with scope to work from home.

The role:

This is a great opportunity to join the unique RCJ Advice – Citizens Advice & Law Centre. We have two court-based offices, at the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand, and at the Central Family Court on High Holborn, although we mainly now provide advice by telephone can therefore support people who are accessing any court in England and Wales.

This new role will take overall responsibility for these two court-based offices and the front-line aspect of these services. The role will manage a team of up to 3 employees, and will recruit volunteers, to deliver the work.

The main aims of this aspect of our operations are:-

  • Providing a high quality first point of contact and initial triage service online, by email, telephone and in-person
  • Providing an efficient and well-managed service between clients and in particular our volunteer solicitors
  • Taking responsibility for our two offices to ensure they operate practically and safely for staff, volunteers and visiting clients
  • Developing more efficient and technology-based solutions as to how to run our front of house and triage service
  • Having oversight of data collection at this initial triage stage

A second stage will involve a visit to our central London offices the following week.

The role:

A great opportunity to join RCJ Advice, a Citizens Advice and Law Centre, based at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, as part of our Legal Aid service.

Legal Aid is a lifeline to many people who need legal advice but can’t afford a lawyer. This vital role will manage the billing and related administration of our Legal Aid Contracts in Housing Law, Family Law, and our Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS). The role will primarily focus on:-

  • Managing the billing process for our Legal Aid contracts.
  • Preparing case files for licensed work and inter partes billing
  • Liaising with cost lawyers to ensure prompt preparation of licensed work billing & inter partes bills
  • Facilitating the costs recovery process where costs have been awarded
  • Preparing and submitting LAA returns for controlled work – Legal Help, HLPAS In Court Duty Scheme, HLPAS Early Legal advice and escape fee cases.

You will come with experience of preparing and processing legal aid billing and private billing; experience of using the Legal Aid Agency portal; excellent skills in IT; strong interpersonal skills and an ordered approach to your work.
