Mr P's Pension Payments

How Citizens Advice Islington helped Mr P and his wife.

Mr P is 73 and cares for his wife who has severe respiratory problems. His State Retirement Pension had not been paid since November leaving them extremely short of money. We were able to resolve the issue by a phone call which established that this was due to a DWP error- they had addressed a letter wrongly and it was returned to them so his payments were stopped. His pension payments were re-started and fully backdated. Mr P then brought his wife to a second appointment so that we could challenge the non-payment of her Winter Fuel Payment. We were able to explain to her that she should be entitled to Attendance Allowance and explained how to claim and that we could help to complete the claim form. This would also enable her husband to claim a Carers Premium on their Pension Credit.
